Abstract
An analysis of M1 profiles with Froude number as a reference parameter is made. A total of 182 M1 profiles in rectangular, trapezoidal, triangular, and parabolic channels are studied. Ranges of variables considered are: Bread-depth ratio, 1 to 20; side slope, 0 to 3; top width-depth ratio in parabolic channels, 2 to 20; roughness coefficient n, 0.012 to 0.045; and bed slope, 4 × 10−3 to 4 × 10−4. A relationship between uniform flow Froude number and the length of the profile is developed. It is shown that the nondimensional length of the profile varies as the square of the uniform flow Froude number. The effects of channel shape, slope, and roughness on the profile characteristics are examined.
