Abstract
This paper is the report of the Task Force on Bed Forms in Alluvial Channels, Sedimentation Committee, Hydraulics Division. A collection of definitions developed by the Task Force is presented to describe the principal types of bed forms that occur in alluvial channels. Illustrative photographs and observations on the licence of the various bed geometries are also presented, along with a summary of the other terms in common use for the bed forms that are distinguished. Some guidelines are given to aid in the collection of meaningful data on bed forms, and the need for complete, quantitative information is stressed.
