Abstract
Current meter techniques for measuring the quantity of water in convergent passages of hydraulic turbine intake structures are presented. These techniques are best applied to large discharges as found in hydroelectric plants with Kaplan and Francis turbines. The problems of velocity field distortion, calibration of the instruments, and resolution of the velocity component are examined. Flows measured by the Gibson method and by the U. S. Geological Survey gage are compared. Good correlation was obtained because of excellent measuring sections under steady state conditions.
