Abstract
Investigations made to define a suitable protection against hurricane surge floods in Jamaica Bay involved the study of astronomic and hurricane tides, and their propagation in the system, both under present conditions and as would be modified after the protective works are built. Mathematical models were sent for different cases and solutions obtained by means of an electronic computer. A generic model is presented for a network of channels subject to a sinusoidal tide excitation. An application of this procedure to the tidal regime in the Jamaica Bay showed that the model could be calibrated to a satisfactory degree of accuracy.
