Abstract
A definition sketch is proposed for the submerged hydraulic jump with the introduction of a submergence factor. Theoretical and empirical equations have been developed for the prominent flow parameters. The energy loss in the submerged jump has been shown to be considerably less than that in the corresponding free jump for higher submergences. High velocities continue to exist along the bed for considerable distances with higher submergences.
