Abstract
Study of 57 selected flood events on 18 rivers in Great Plains, that have tandem stream-gaging stations, indicated transmission losses averaged 40% of flood flows between upper and lower gaging stations averaging 53 valley miles apart; losses of over 200 acre-ft/valley mi, approximately 75% of flood volumes, were found.
