Stilling Basin Damage at Chief Joseph Dam

Abstract
200 ft high dam has tainter-gate controlled ogee spillway that discharges into hydraulic jump-type, energy dissipator with single row of baffles and end sill; damages in concrete of stilling basin were discovered 2 yr after project became operative; evaluation of conditions that are considered to have contributed to damage.
