Abstract

Use of radar for quantitative measurement of precipitation, detection and tracking of tornadoes, severe winds, and hailstorms; radar occasionally detects initiation of new precipitation area one to six hours before it reaches regular hourly reporting weather station; river forecaster, hydrologist, and meteorologist can use radar in short range forecasting of rainfall and river stages.
