Abstract
A water quality data management system which simplifies the retrieval of computer-stored data is explained. Everyday conversational language provides the communication between the data retriever and the computer, minimizing the need for specialized training and expertise in computer operations. Information is handled through use of the data base management system SIR (Scientific Information Retrieval) and a FORTRAN program that interfaces SIR with the user. Because all operating commands are built into the system, little or no experience with computers is required.
