Abstract

The overall quality of college-level education in water resources planning and engineering is high based on the qualifications of recent graduate engineers seeking employment in consulting engineering work. Certain deficiences in water resources education background still exist which, if alleviated, would reduce the time spent by consultants for training. The writers, engineers in the Water Resources Division of an international consulting firm specializing in the development of land, water, and power resources, provide a summary of the qualities looked for in hiring recent graduates, highlight specific areas where educational improvement is desirable, and provide suggestions for improving the educational experience to the benefit of both the student and the prospective employer.
