Dynamic Behavior of Floating Storage Vessel
Publication: Journal of the Waterway, Port, Coastal and Ocean Division
Volume 106, Issue 2
Abstract
The response of a cylindrical floating storage tank due to small amplitude reqular waves is analyzed. The storage vessel is anchored by means of a riser connected to the ocean floor. The analysis is based on a two-degree-of-freedom, rigid-body motion. The solutions are obtained in closed form. Numerical results are presented in nondimensional form to describe the motion. A wave tank test was performed with an over-and-under storage tank model. The motion of the model in regular waves was recorded. The correlation between the model test data and the theoretical results is found to be good.
