Abstract
Diffraction of waves by a vertical absorbing wedge is examined. A useful approximate solution, which is in contrast to previous results and is applicable when the two wedge faces have different reflection properties, is presented. The approximate solution is compared with the asymptotic representation of the exact solution to the impedance wedge diffraction problem revealing good agreement. The approximate solution has been used in a harbor theory for wind-generated waves.
