Abstract
This report is a study of channel stabilization and bank protection works on fourteen alluvial streams in the continental United States. The report is based on a series of papers that have been presented at past ASCE Conventions and Conferences or published in the Waterways and Harbors Journal, or both. Additional information was gained by study of the available literature listed in the bibliography, by inspections of existing works on the rivers under study, and by discussion with engineers charged with the responsibility of design and construction of these works. Data on current (1964) practices of channel stabilization and bank protection work were collected and analyzed. Conclusions are presented and explained in the report.
