Model Studies of Sector Gate Type Locks
Publication: Journal of the Waterways and Harbors Division
Volume 84, Issue 4
Abstract
Sector-gate system is used particularly where reverse head conditions might be encountered; model studies at Waterways Experiment Station have shown that in sector-type lock designs closing force should be slightly predominant so that gates will be tightly closed when not in use; loop culverts are recognized as important adjunct to lock design, particularly if heads are in range of 5 to 20 ft and time of filling is critical.
