Comparison of Space Resection Adjustments
Publication: Journal of the Surveying and Mapping Division
Volume 92, Issue 1
Abstract
The least squares solution of the photogrammetric space resection problem is obtained by four methods. These are the minimization of the sum of the squares of the angle cosine residuals, the angle residuals, or the residuals of the measured plate coordinate, and a method by which solutions are formed through all possible point combinations using the angle cosines. Based on three sets of observations, there appears to be no wide disparity, as judged by the standard errors of the exposure station coordinates, between the various adjustments. From a theoretical viewpoint, it is better to perform the adjustment minimizing the plate coordinate residuals, by which method the rotation angles are also obtained.
