Abstract
Aerial triangulation methods, a major problem in photogrammetry, require the use of first-order instruments. A method for using second-order instruments, which offers two solutions—numerical and graphic—for route surveying, is described. The theoretical and mathematical conception of the method is given. The error propagation and the correction of errors is discussed, and the complete computation procedure is given. A practical example is used to show the accuracy that can be expected through the use of this method. The practical example leads to empirical formulas, that provide the determination of the maximum bridging distance. Economic considerations indicate that a saving of time and money would result from the use of this method.
