Uniform Requirements for Property Surveys
Publication: Journal of the Surveying and Mapping Division
Volume 89, Issue 2
Abstract
Uniform requirements will serve to limit the liability of the property surveyor, improve client-engineering relationships, help solve the problem of fees for surveying services, and generally benefit those who are concerned with title ownership of real property. Considerable legislation has been enacted by the cities, counties, and states to regulate the surveys necessary for subdivisions. However, little or nothing has been done to provide uniformity for resurveys, retracements, location surveys, and so forth. The only persons who can properly draft such standards or requirements are the surveyors who understand the intricate problems of resurveys. These requirements give proper consideration (1) quality control, (2) informational content, and (3) professional responsibility.
