Abstract
The ability to measure soil strains is considered to be an essential factor in solving many soil mechanics problems. The strains which occur either in extension or in compression are usually defined as the change in spacing between two reference points divided by initial spacing. The purpose herein is to present results of an evaluation of new instrumentation for measuring such strains.
