Impulsive Load Stiffness of Flexible Pavements
Publication: Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division
Volume 96, Issue 2
Abstract
Engineers continue to seek realistic and rapid in situ nondestructive testing methods for evaluating the load-carrying capacities of existing flexible pavements. Existing methods do not meet the need for simulating impulsive type of loads such as when a fast-moving vehicle hops or when an aircraft lands. For example, the McLeod static plate bearing method described by Ritterand Paquette (5) does not consider the impulsive nature of the loading and the time history of the pavement response.
