Digital Simulation of Heat Flow in Soils
Publication: Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division
Volume 92, Issue 4
Abstract
During the winter of 1964-1965 daily temperature measurements were made of in-place soil and a simultaneous, finite-difference digital simulation of underground heat flow was carried out. The one-dimensional simulation have reasonable predictions of the measured soil temperatures at depths of 6 in. to 4 ft below the surface. In the course of making this simulation the thermal-reservoir effect of deep soil and the influence of the surface convective coefficient on near-surface temperature-predictions were investigated.
