Abstract
The footing of an exposed exterior column will always support both the column and the extra loading of the external wall. The external wall together with its footing are erected across the column footing. The total forces and moments acting on the column footing must therefore be considered in its design. Because loading from the wall and its footing is proportional to the dimension and position of the contact area of these footings, the design will be complicated. Charts simplify such design, which would ordinarily involve either the solution of simultaneous equations or a trial method.
