Abstract
Results of study of stresses induced in pipes buried in field in expansive clay and exposed to seasonal changes, as well as irrigation; asbestos cement pipes were tested to determine stresses at various sections; measurements of soil moisture changes and soil movements; high stresses resulted in pipe through inequalities in lateral and vertical swelling behavior of clay; these stresses could be greater than those caused by internal pressure.
