Abstract
The variation in concentration of flocculent particles in the sludge blanket of an upflow clarifier or reactor is a function of the upflow velocity of the liquid. The nature of this functional relationship for discrete particles has been determined by others. The experimental work of this investigation demonstrates that the same general type of relationship applies to flocculent particles. The results should prove useful in the further investigation of the behavior of upflow units as physical-chemical reactors.
