Plastic Relining of Small-Diameter Pipes
Publication: Journal of the Sanitary Engineering Division
Volume 96, Issue 2
Abstract
The relining of old sewers with a plastic pipe is a new method of sewer maintenance. It involves the insertion of a high density plastic pipe through the old sewer, the extension of all live drains into the new plastic pipe and the grouting of the annular space between the liner and the old sewer. The method is carried out with a minimum amount of excavation and disturbance to the travel portion of the roadway. It is less expensive and three times faster than the conventional open cut methods. It restores the physical condition of old sewers, prolongs their useful life and improves their hydraulic capacity. The plastic relining of sewers represents a significant development, in making best use of available funds for the maintenance or restoration of existing sewerage systems.
