Abstract
The mathematical models describing the removal of suspended solids and head loss changes through the depth and during the time of operation of a filter run have been established by various research workers in the past which gave good correlation with experimental results under particular conditions. Recently a more general equation has been evolved which was used in a multilayer filtration study and is found to predict results matching to experimental observations. The relation of the various parameters in the equation with filtering velocity and specific surface have been found for multilayer filtration with flocculent suspensions and the resulting mathematical model was run with the help of the digital computer to predict concentration removal and head loss development in the filter.
