Microbial Substrate Storage in Activated Sludge

Abstract
It is generally believed that a portion of the assimilated organic matter which is removed from waste water by activated sludge is tored by the microorganisms present in the sludge floc. Furthermore, it is assumed that this stored material must be exhausted during prolonged aeration under starvation conditions before the sludge is in a suitable.
