Abstract
A model is developed to represent a sewage treatment system that includes the possibility of using effluent storage and low-flow augmentation. The model operates over time in the form of a digital computer simulation, and the resulting effects on the system are described. The object of this study was to develop insight into the operation of the system using various combinations of treatment elements and operating disciplines and to measure the effectiveness of the system for given system configurations. The elements that compose the system (in any configuration) are evaluated in terms of the frequency with which an assigned limiting value of the allowable critical deficit in the stream is exceeded.
