Reinforced Gypsum for Egyptian Housing
Publication: Journal of the Structural Division
Volume 108, Issue 6
Abstract
Reinforcement of gypsum for wall and roof panels is investigated using Egyptian gypsum combined with fibers and Nile reeds. Panels reinforced with jute, glass wool, wire, polypropylene fabrics, and reeds are studied. The panels were tested mainly under flexural and impact loading to determine the effect of the type and amount of reinforcement and the panel thickness on the strength and deformation characteristics. Roof panels reinforced with Nile reeds are proposed. A 20-year old house of stabilized earth with reed-reinforced gypsum floor and roof panels is described.
