Finite Element Method for Interface Problems

Publication: Journal of the Structural Division
Volume 108, Issue 2

Abstract

A method for incorporating interface discontinuities in a finite element analysis of discontinuous media is presented. For computational purposes the procedure is implemented into the nonlinear structural analysis program NONSAP. Several example problems concerning the modeling of concrete masonry mortar joints are presented, and demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the algorithm.
