Abstract

The purpose of this note is to present an investigation into the effect of this assumption upon the estimation of reliabilities for wind-sensitive members. Such an investigation is motivated by recent research results, according to which extreme wind speeds are best modeled in most cases by probability distributions with considerably shorter tails than the Extreme Value Type I distribution. In particular, the Rayleigh distribution, or other Extreme Type III distributions with even shorter tails, have been suggested.
