Errors in Utilization of Cold-Formed Steel Members

Abstract
Experience indicates that the detailed requirements of AISI specifications are often overlooked in choosing cold-formed steel members for the structural components of buildings. Examples are presented, accompanied by photographs and sketches, to illustrate problems caused by design oversights, when adequate consideration was not given to local buckling, stiffening of compression elements, torsion, and lateral buckling, any or all which may be critical when such slender members are utilized.
