Bending Stresses in Dust Filled Cylinders
Publication: Journal of the Structural Division
Volume 105, Issue 11
Abstract
Large cylindrical ducts are commonly used in pollution control installations to carry the polluted air or gas to a precipitator or baghouse. The structural design of these cylindrical shells poses some interesting problems to the engineer. One of the major loads is the dust settling in the duct. The amount and unit weight of the settled dust varies with the type of installation, but common design dust loads are taken in the range of 0 percent-50 percent of the cross section of the duct.
