Abstract

Lower bound limit analysis solutions for slabs with free edges are found to be more difficult to obtain than for slabs with supports. Only Nielsen (2) has presented solutions by intuitive approach for two cases of isotropically reinforced slabs with one edge free and the other edges being simply supported or fixed. The main difficulty one faces in an intuitive approach is in satisfying the boundary conditions along the free edge and making the solution valid and efficient.
