Abstract

Some laboratory test results on ferrocement load-bearing wall elements of undulating cross section are presented. Slenderness ratio of the element, amount of mesh, and mild steel reinforcement were the variables included in the study. Specimens were tested under direct compression and the lateral deflections, surface strains, and ultimate loads measured. Ultimate loads have been computed using some of the methods available for the design of reinforced concrete wall elements; also a few other approaches have been examined and the computed values from all the methods compared with the test results.
