Shear of Light-Gage Partitions in Tall Buildings

Publication: Journal of the Structural Division
Volume 102, Issue 7

Abstract

Connection details of wall panels fabricated of light-gage corrugated sheets are described. The difference between these panels and other panels used in practice as shear diaphragms are explained. A method for calculating the shear flexibility of the proposed wall panels is developed using a strain energy approach. The method is applied to a typical wall panel having different connection details. The prime effect of these details on the shear flexibility of the panel is pointed out. Strength criteria of wall panels are also examined.
