Analysis of Composite Prestressed Concrete Beams
Publication: Journal of the Structural Division
Volume 100, Issue 10
Abstract
A method of analysis of time-dependent behavior has been developed for composite prestressed concrete beams under dead load and superimposed dead loads. This method takes into account the shrinkage and creep of web concrete, relaxation of prestressing steel, presence of untensioned reinforcing steel, differential shrinkage, and differential creep. The analysis is similar to the stiffness method of analysis of structures, except that the stiffness of the cross section varies in each interval of time; thus, it is called varying stiffness method. The results obtained by this analysis are found to be in good agreement with experimental values. Above all, it involves only two unknowns compared to a maximum of seven in the conventional method. Thus, this method is recommended for analysis of composite beams.
