Abstract
The effect of shear on the deflection response and on the redistribution of moments in beams is presented. Three types of beams are treated: simple, propped cantilever, and fixed. The fixed beam is subjected to a variety of load positions. The steel is allowed to strain harden in flexure and the shear-strain curve is used without simplification. It is found that the effect of shear on both the deflection and moment redistribution greatly increases if the beam experiences yielding in shear.
