Abstract

The rational approach to the design of engineered brick masonry, as with other building materials, is time consuming. With the advent of the computer, brick masonry analysis programs can be written to aid the design professional. Two computer programs along with examples are given for the analysis of multistory loadbearing buildings following the nonreinforced provisions of the 1969 SCPI Standard, Building Code Requirements for Engineered Brick Masonry. One program considers the analysis of shear walls subjected to lateral wind forces. The other program covers the analysis of bearing walls subject to gravity loads and lateral wind loads. Both programs are written in the BASIC language and should be compatible with most time-sharing facilities.
