Abstract
The plastic analysis of transversely loaded plane frames using a direct application of Hill's principle of maximum plastic work is described. In this maximum work approach only the equations of equilibrium and the yield criterion at the hinges are used in the basic formulation of the problem. The comparative simplicity of this method is illustrated by examples in which a right-angle bent is analyzed using both circular and piecewise linear interaction curves. Single concentrated and uniformly distributed loads are considered.
