Formulation of Decision Logic Tables

The structure of decision logic tables and application to engineering problems is analyzed. Decision logic tables offer a means for the clear definition and presentation of engineering decision-making problems and provide a sound basis for decision-making machine programs. A technique for formulating decision logic tables is the principal purpose of the paper. The technique utilizes the uniqueness of the permutations of the possible relative magnitude states of design parameters to establish all the valid decision rules corresponding to a prescribed set of design conditions. The technique enables the decision rules corresponding to conditions which display logical dependence to be accurately formulated. Two problems which require considerable logical analysis are cast into decision logic table form for purposes of illustration of the technique.
