Abstract

The computer system described permits both the analysis and design of complete reinforced concrete buildings of various types. Any geometric configurations or loadings may be handled, but a simplified form of input is used for typical orthogonal buildings. Various methods of analysis are provided, ranging from approximate analysis of a portion of the building to a complete, three-dimensional stiffness analysis of the entire structure. Critical live load positions and code-specified load combinations may be automatically generated. The member design capabilities include beams and columns of various shapes, flat slabs, and one-way floor systems. Such members are designed in complete detail, including primary and secondary reinforcement and the location and length of all bars. Member design may be controlled by prespecifying cross-section dimensions or steel percentages, and by specifying geometric similarities or identities between members. Recycling of analysis and design, during which member properties and dead weights are updated, is possible in one computer run. Final output consists of member schedules, reinforcement details, and quantities.
