Biaxial Moment Thrust Curvature Relations
Publication: Journal of the Structural Division
Volume 95, Issue 5
Abstract
A method for computing moment-thrust-curvature relations for reinforced concrete column sections in biaxial bending is described. The cross section is partitioned by a rectangular grid into a large number of small elemental areas of steel and concrete. For any given strain distribution in the section, summation of elemental forces acting on the elemental areas and summation of the moments of the elemental forces yield the corresponding applied force and moments. An iterative search procedure is used to find the strain distribution, and hence the curvature, which correspond to a given loading condition. The method has been developed for computer calculation. General bending of members of irregular cross section can also be treated using this technique.
