Abstract

Network theory is applied to structural analysis. To include in this general theory piecewise methods of analysis, such as the tearing methods advocated by G. Kron, the theory is extended to allow for dissections of the given structure. A mixed method of analysis is developed and it is shown how various specializations of the resulting equations yield all the usual methods of structural analysis. Also, the mixed method equations, when solved by partitioning, give the above-mentioned piecewise methods, thus making it unnecessary to appeal to Householder's modification formula.
