Behavior of Splices in Beam-Column Connections
Publication: Journal of the Structural Division
Volume 93, Issue 5
Abstract
The results of ten tests on lapped splices in beam-column connections are analyzed. The three main variables were the splice length, the splice location, and the stirrup spacing over the splice length. The load-deflection curves are examined and compared with a similar unspliced specimen. Anchorage bond stresses are computed and compared with the provision of ACI 318-63. The results indicated that the ductility increased with the length of splice and with closer spacing of stirrups over the splice length. The ultimate anchorage bond stresses were on the average 28% higher than the code values for splices.
