Minimum Coast of Frames
Publication: Journal of the Structural Division
Volume 93, Issue 4
Abstract
The design of frames leading to minimum cost of material and connections is investigated. Strength and stability requirements are expressed using plastic design principles. The nonlinear optimization problem is solved by a descent programming method. The effectiveness of story-by-story optimization is explored with the aim of developing a practical method for obtaining close-to-optimum designs.
