Wood—Structural Enigma or Engineering Reality

Abstract
The performance record of wood in service is described. Results of basic research studies on wood and its inherent advantages are outlined. Development of design criteria for wood, wood-base products, and wood components is discussed and additional research needs to improve wood's position as a structural material are presented.
