Computers and the Design of the World Trade Center

Publication: Journal of the Structural Division
Volume 92, Issue 6

Abstract

The problems encountered in the design of the structure of The World Trade Center buildings are examined and the solution of some of these problems are found in the application of computer techniques. The reasons for selecting an in-house computer instead of relying on the services of a service bureau are outlined. The computer selected is described and an outline of the computer department procedures is given. Programming techniques as they affect the interaction of several programs or systems such as a subroutine data management system are examined. Documentation of programs and record keeping is outlined. Three applications to design are covered in detail.
