Abstract

A language called POST (Problem Oriented Subroutine Translator) has been developed and is presented herein. The use of POST simplifies the programming of the subroutines necessary to accomplish the commands of the problem-oriented system. This language is similar to FORTRAN but features implied matrix operations, automatic storage allocation, and indirect addressing. With POST, civil engineers with some programming experience, i.e., knowledge of FORTRAN, should be able to develop quickly and easily the subroutines necessary for their own problem-oriented system, or for the extension or modification of existing systems. The use of POST is illustrated with an example program.
