Flexibility of Axially-Loaded Nonuniform Members
Publication: Journal of the Structural Division
Volume 92, Issue 2
Abstract
A simple scheme is devised to calculate the stiffness, carry-over factor, and fixed-end moment of nonuniform members under axial load either in tension or in compression. Based on the concept that the influence of the axial load and the non-uniformity of the cross section may be accounted for separately, it permits rapid determination of these constants by using existing design aids. The results of this investigation strongly indicate that the proposed method can be expected to yield satisfactory results in most practical cases.
