Abstract
A method of approximation is given for finding the elastic critical load of struts with axial loads that vary linearly along their lengths, using existing tables and an additional table of stability functions. The method applies to isolated struts, struts continuous through several supports, or complete frameworks containing struts with nonuniform axial loads. Good agreement was found between this approximation and calculations performed on an electronic computer.
